Bio

Iris M. Cintrón (b.1995) is a self taught abstract artist based in Puerto Rico. She started exploring abstract painting in 2025 as a form of emotional release and a renewed understanding of the self.

Full of movement and flow, her works are a direct expression of her continuous struggle: “keep moving, stay present”. Iris holds a BFA in Art History with a minor in Art through the University of Central Florida and acquired her MA in Graphic Design from Atlantic University College in Puerto Rico. Her abstract paintings serve as a gateway to her innermost emotions and she hopes it inspires and encourages others to acknowledge their own without shame.

I create to make sense of my inner world using water as imagery. As someone who lives on a tropical island, water plays a huge role in my life and I have always found it inspiring, specifically its connection to emotions and healing. My work revolves around centering yourself, self worth and the importance of acknowledging your feelings. By employing fluid brushstrokes that convey a sense of serene movement across the canvas I create expressive and bold scenes to communicate emotions.

I work with many layers of acrylic paint and add small subtle details with soft and oil pastels as I go. My approach to painting is specifically done to promote grounding by quieting my mind before I start. I do this by making random marks in the beginning stages as an initial intuitive practice that allows me to not fear the canvas and see it instead, as a mindful exercise that in the end adds character to the final artwork.
